Trente et Quarante
Trente et Quarante (called also Rouge et
Noir), a game of French origin is played with 6 packs of 52 cards
on a special shield-shaped table which is divided into 4 fields;
Red, Black, Color and Contrary.
The face cards are worth 10 points, aces 1 and
other cards are worth their nominal value.
The dealer places the cards one beside the
other in 2 rows. Points for Black (Noir) are determined by the
first row while points for Red (Rouge) are determined by the
second one. The total of points in each row must result within 30
and 40, which means that it has to outmatch 30 but it must not
surpass 40. The winning row is the one that gets closer to
30.
If the color of the first card in the first
row results the same of the winning row wins also Color
(Couleur). In the other case Contrary (Inverse) wins. In case of
tie the result is invalid and the game has to be repeated. If
both rows reach 31 points, bets are retained for one hand and
will be free according to the following hand's result.
Players can insure their bets against
imprisonment jointing an additional payment of 1% of the bet. If
both rows reach 31 points, the insurance is lost but the stake
remains for the next hand. The prize is paid out in proportion of
1:1.
